This is completely normal. Months of rain, compaction, low light, and zero growth mean damage builds up — but nothing grows back yet.

➡️ Spring growth repairs most winter damage.

For most lawns, March and April are the key months to begin. This is when grass starts actively growing and can recover from work like feeding, aeration, and scarification.

Moss treatments can kill moss, but they don’t fix the cause. Long-term control requires improving lawn conditions so grass can outcompete moss. an answer to this item.

Spring and autumn are the best times. Grass needs to be actively growing to recover and fill gaps after moss removal.

For most lawns, late March to April or September are ideal. Scarifying too early can damage grass and slow recovery.

Yes — if done at the wrong time. Scarifying stresses grass and should only be carried out when the lawn can recover quickly.

Many UK lawns benefit from regular aeration, especially on clay soil or lawns that feel hard underfoot. Aeration improves drainage and root health.

Thin grass, light soils, and poor spring preparation all contribute. A thicker lawn holds moisture better and copes with stress more effectively.

Yes. Overseeding thickens turf, improves appearance, and reduces weeds. Spring and early autumn are the best times in the UK.

This is usually caused by compacted soil or poor drainage. Aeration helps water move away from the surface and improves lawn health.

Absolutely. Clay soils hold water and compact easily, while lighter soils drain faster and dry out more quickly. Lawn care should always be adjusted to suit soil type.
